Founded on restraint, the residence is
defined by a singular material
expression—an ochre lime-wash
plaster that reinterprets the traditional
architecture of the Karoo through a
contemporary lens. Three interlocking
rectilinear volumes establish a
sculptural composition that balances
solidity with simplicity, while permeable
breeze-block masonry introduces
texture, filtered light and passive
environmental performance. Verticality
shapes both the building’s
environmental strategy and spatial
experience, encouraging natural
ventilation while drawing the eye
upward to create a profound
connection between earth and sky.
Carefully positioned courtyards and
sheltered outdoor spaces provide
moments of refuge, reinforcing the
dialogue between architecture and the
surrounding landscape. Inside, locally
sourced timber, bespoke joinery and
handcrafted textiles celebrate regional
craftsmanship and material
authenticity. A restrained palette of
furnishings allows the richly textured
ochre walls to remain the focal point,
creating interiors defined by warmth,
depth and quiet sophistication. The
